Having reviewed the best Japanese brand bread maker in my previous article, there is still some confusion over which brand is actually better. In this series of articles, I will compare and contrast the difference between 2 particular models to give you a better idea of which model to choose. In general, there are pros and cons to any product so knowing their strength and weakness is key to buying the right product for your home.
For this particular article, we are comparing between Zojirushi bb-pac20 vs panasonic sd-yd250.
#1: Quality of Bread
I guess the quality of the bread is probably the most important criteria for a bread maker. It is hard to say which machine produces better quality as taste is subjective. What I did was to look through as much of the Amazon reviews as humanly possible and see how they are reviewing the taste. Overall, there is a bigger proportion of reviewers who are satisfied with the quality of the bread from the Zojirushi bb-pac20, relative to the Panasonic. In fact, some have started to complaint that Panasonic is losing its touch as the bread makers have problem even if they are new.
The Zojirushi bb-pac20 comes out ahead when compared to the Panasonic SD YD250. The difference isn’t huge but it is noticeable. If you are the impatient type, go for the Zojirushi bb-pac20,
#3: Gluten setting
For Gluten food eater, I am afraid only the Zojirushi bb-pac20 provide Gluten setting to cater to your special dietary needs. Panasonic doesn’t offer this option and I am not sure if it will do so in the immediate future.
#4: Noise level
Nobody likes a noisy bread maker. The good news is that both the Zojirushi and the Panasonic bread makers are fairly quiet as you can only mostly heard only the kneading sound. Since I was unable to tell the difference, I used a noise meter to measure how much noise was each machine giving out. The Zojirushi bb-pac20 came out slightly on top as it was the quieter of the two.
This is where Panasonic takes a huge advantage over the Zojirushi bb-pac20. At current prices, it is about half the cost of its competitor so it is really very affordable. If you are on a budget, getting a Panasonic will save you a lot of money.
Both bread makers are great options in general. However, when I looked in detail, the Zojirushi bb-pac20 clearly comes out on top with its higher quality bread, low noise level and faster baking time. Having said that, it is rather pricey so it might not be the best option for all families.
